Removing SaveKeeper

You can remove SaveKeeper at any time. Your saves stay normal Big Ambitions saves, and everything SaveKeeper kept stays on your computer until you delete it yourself.

Your saves

SaveKeeper is not a gameplay mod and is never part of a save's mod list, so removing it does not affect whether a save loads. Saves you made, restored, duplicated or kept with SaveKeeper are ordinary Big Ambitions saves.

After removal, the game's Delete buttons work the way they do without SaveKeeper again: deleting a save in the game is permanent. The extra save information and the SaveKeeper panel disappear too.

What stays behind

Removing the mod does not delete SaveKeeper's folder or your backups. They stay until you delete them:

  • SaveKeeper's folder, with the Trash, snapshots and log (see Backup locations and storage for where it is).
  • Your backups: in SaveKeeper's folder, or in the SaveKeeper Backups folder of the backup location you chose.

All of it is ordinary files. Backups stay standard ZIP files, and Trash entries stay ordinary folders, each with a RESTORE.txt saying where its files go back. The README.txt in SaveKeeper's folder explains how to restore a save by hand.

Before you remove it

  1. Look through the Trash tab and restore anything you want back in the game. It is easier with SaveKeeper than by hand.
  2. Decide whether to keep your backups, and copy any you want to keep somewhere safe.
  3. Unsubscribe from SaveKeeper on the Steam Workshop, or remove it from your mods.

To remove SaveKeeper's retained data completely, delete SaveKeeper's folder, and the SaveKeeper Backups folder if you chose another backup location, yourself. That permanently deletes the Trash, snapshots and backups in them, so only do it once you are sure you do not need them.

If you find a file ending in .sk-tmp in your SaveGames folder, it is an unfinished SaveKeeper temporary file. The game ignores it and it is safe to delete.
